Supposing that you already know why, you could ask yourself how can someone learn metalworking. It is practically impossible to be an apprentice, so there are two ways open:
- You can attend an Art Institute or a private school; some are good, some less so and it is not easy to distinguish, especially for a layperson.
- You can try and be a self-taught craftsman, learning by yourself: from books, from the internet, attend classes, try and copy well made pieces (the painters of old used to copy masterpieces) etc.

You will get acquainted with the properties of metals and alloys, the use of tools and the basic metalworking techniques (piercing, sawing, filing, forming, forging, raising, chasing, soldering, casting, engraving, stone setting, rolling and wire drawing, sanding, finishing).
You will learn the tricks of the trade and the precautions in using flame and chemical substances.
Each student has tools, materials and a workbench at his disposal.
You will learn structure, fabrication methods and functionality of the body ornaments (ring, necklace, earrings, armlet) and simple useful objects such as keyrings and small knives.
